Chronology of Egrets’ Cove Solar Power System
(A good approximation through 2009;
more careful track keeping began in 2010)
June 2003 Purchased St.Ives solar equipment (8)48 watt Siemens panels
October 2003 Bob Fairchild planned basic system
May- Oct. 2004 Ran wires to junction boxes for house sites & to common house from poles
October 2004 Installed St. Ives system and started collecting
March 2005 Installed Trimetric Battery Monitor
May 2006 Purchased additional solar panels from Curtis Pike community
July 2006 Purchased Outback Tie-in System
October 2006 Installed Curtis Pike panels (6) 75 watt Siemens panels
January 2007 Installed Outback Tie-in System; Trimetric meter goes on line
June 2007 Enclosed solar batteries in box
September 2007 Purchased new panels to complete what is possible for this inverter (5) 165 watt Solar World panels
November 2007 Installed Solar World panels
March 2009 Purchased liability insurance in order to apply for net metering
April 3, 2009 Began net metering; batteries kept as back up.
Notes:
- As of July 17, 2010, we have 3716 Kilowatt-hours of solar energy since the Trimetric Meter was installed in late January 2007.
- This number cannot be used to discuss what we are currently collecting because we have about twice the amount of collecting capacity that we had when the meter was installed. The net metering process that began in April 2009 alos means that our collection is not limited by battery capacity.
- The 2007 average residential monthly average electricity consumption in KY was 1212 kWh. In 2008, our community avg. monthly consumption from the grid was 542 kWh. In 2009, it was 390 kWh. In the 7 months of 2009 (after we began net metering), we sold back 178 kWh; thus, the difference in our usage of grid electricity.
